Sparta factory closing; 83 losing jobs

SPARTA, Wis. (WXOW) – 83 people are losing their jobs early next year as a Sparta factory closes its doors.

CFS Brands, LLC notified the state Tuesday that it is closing its facility at 402 S. Black River Street in Sparta starting in January 2020.

Barrie Green, Vice President of Human Resources for CFS Brands said that the company has decided to discontinue the product line made at the Sparta facility.

The elimination of jobs will continue in phases, according to the company, until the final closure set for March 31.

There are 15 salaried and 68 hourly positions at the facility.

The company website says that CFS Brands makes products for foodservice, healthcare, and sanitary maintenance.

With the notice, the state’s Department of Workforce Development will make transition assistance available to the workers affected by the permanent layoffs.
