The San Diego Asian Youth Organization, Pan Pacific Law Enforcement Association and the San Diego Police Department’s Multi- Cultural Community Relations Office will distribute rice to families-in-need Saturday, the culmination of the 10th annual Thanksgiving Rice Drive.
The three organizations hold the annual rice drive because rice can feed needy families for a longer time-span than Thanksgiving staples like turkey. The organizations will distribute the 150,000th pound of rice in the annual drive’s history during the event.
San Diego City Council members Georgette Gomez and Chris Cate both congratulated the rice drive’s organizers for their efforts to combat hunger around the city.
“The consistent success of this annual Thanksgiving Rice Drive is yet another example of how leadership of the youth of the San Diego Asian Youth Organization makes a difference in our communities,” Gomez said. “I congratulate them on this anniversary.”
The distribution will be held at the SDPD’s Multi-Cultural Community Relations Office, located at 5348 University Ave., Suite 100. Rice will be given to families on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 9 a.m. until supplies run out.
