US ban on Chinese chipmaker to disrupt supply chain

The U.S. ban on the use of components from China-based Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. could cause widespread disruption to China’s chip supply chain, Electronics 360 reports. The company’s chips are used in mobile phones, telecom base stations and tablets. As a result of the export restrictions, SMIC is stocking up on production equipment and crucial replacement parts as it braces for sanctions.
