United Way Holds Annual Giving Thanks Food Distribution

What started out as serving 60 families 10 years ago, has blossomed this year into serving six times as many.

The United Way held its annual Giving Thanks Food Distribution Thursday morning at the Bud Cooper Gym in Sault Ste. Marie.

There were no financial requirements to pick up the food.

Nearly 70 volunteers help set up, hand out and carry out a wide range of food items.

“We decided to take over from the hockey team this weekend because they are on the road so we decided to go in shifts and volunteer to distribute the food and to help people take it to their cars.  We love volunteering,” said LSSU Junior from Jamaica, Ashley Mullings.

At the end of the line, participants could pick up information on what to do with any turkey leftovers on Thanksgiving Day.
