Hyderabad: Telangana Kisan Congress Chairman Sunketa Anvesh Reddy demanded an inquiry into the alleged removal of certain quantity of paddy out of every quintal at the procurement centres and also missing bags during transit. The Kisan Congress wants that the farmers are compensated for the value of the quantity of paddy that was removed in the name of “tarugu”.
In a statement here on Monday, the Kisan Congress chairman said that the farmers have been cheated at different levels even after the government has claimed that every grain of paddy was procured this Yasangi season. Explaining the way the farmers were cheated he said that the at least 4 kilograms of paddy was removed from every quintal at the procurement centers of Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) and Cooperatives. “Then again at the rice miller’s end another 5-10 kilograms of paddy has been removed in the name of “tarugu”.
In addition, the number of bags during transit has been altered cheating the farmer for one more time, he said. ” Despite of losses that the farmers have incurred they agreed and gave their produce. But the amounts deposited in their accounts are lesser than what they were supposed to be paid,” he said. In Nizamabad a farmer received Rs 74,868 in place of Rs 82,281 for selling 118 bags of paddy even after he agreed to pay for “tarugu” of 5 kilograms. Similarly in Timmapur of Jagtial, a farmer who has handed over 616 bags of paddy received money for only 560 bags, the Kisan Congress alleged.
Anvesh Reddy further pointed out that in many cases money which was supposed to be deposited in the accounts of the farmers was deposited in traders account. “Money belonged to a farmer from Regunta of Mallapur mandal of Jagtial district was deposited in the name of trader. The Kisan Congress demands a thorough investigation into the whole issue as many farmers in the State have faced similar predicament,” he said.
