Trustee Sues Central Grocers’ Top Brass Over Wholesaler’s Bankruptcy

A trustee overseeing the bankruptcy estate of wholesaler Central Grocers Inc. is suing a number of the cooperative’s former leaders for $80 million, alleging that they funneled cheap merchandise to grocers they controlled to the detriment of CGI.

Howard Samuels, the chapter 7 trustee for Central Grocers and Strack & Van Til Super Market Inc., its retail grocery subsidiary, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Chicago, seeking to recoup $80 million from more than a dozen former CGI directors and executives.
