Shippers with “low-value” goods hit hardest by soaring rates

Record-high freight rates for container traffic take the biggest toll on shippers with low-value commodities, writes analyst firm Sea-Intelligence in its latest newsletter.

This is tied to the fact that freight costs represent a fairly large part of the commodity’s price, and when the price of freight increases, there is less left for the seller.
