Melbourne factory oil vat fire contained

Fifty firefighters have brought a fire at a Melbourne factory under control.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at the Somerton site about 6.45am on Friday after a fire had taken hold in an oil vat outside the building.

Four people were at the factory at the time and were taken to Ambulance Victoria paramedics for assessment.

Fire crews got the blaze under control within half an hour.

Authorities warn it will take some time to make the scene safe.

Freight Drive is currently closed and traffic in the area will be affected.

It is not yet known what caused the fire to start.
