Jamshedpur MLA Saryu smells of procurement scam in health dept

Jamshedpur, July 233: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy informed the media that director health Jharkhand has assured that within two days all the medicines including calcium tablets will reach all the district headquarters in all the districts of the state including Jamshedpur.

The MLA suggested the health officials give orders to the civil surgeons of the district to buy such medicines up to a limit, to which the official replied that this decision will be taken at the highest level in the department.

Surprisingly, the procurement process has become highly concentrated in the health department. Every purchase, small or big, is done at the ministerial level.

“If the government makes public the purchase date and expiry date of the medicines purchased in the health department, then it will be known that in which district, how many medicines get expired within a few months of purchase. The public does not get its benefit, but the buyer gets more than what is needed. This is a big procurement scam in the health department. It has to be busted,” claimed Saryu Roy in a release issued to media.

“I would like to thank Subodh Bari of Birsanagar, who told me over phone this afternoon that calcium tablets are not available in Birsa Nagar Hospital for several days. Pregnant mothers are upset, their anger is erupting on the Anganwadi workers. I immediately called up the civil surgeon of the district. He said that calcium tablet is not in stock for many days. It will be bought and sent from the headquarters only. He assured that if there is money for urban planning, he will buy tablets and send them to Birsanagar, but the entire supply will be available only after purchase from Ranchi,” said the statement of Roy.
