By Hub City Times staff

AUBURNDALE – A Dec. 19 fire has damaged a longtime area cheese factory.

Shortly after 5 p.m., fire crews were called to Wiskerchen Cheese, at 5710 County Rd. H, Auburndale.

When departments arrived on the scene, flames were coming from the facility’s roof.

“The fire was contained to the roof area of the building,” said Hewitt Fire Chief Brian Haferman. “(The) fire was under control in about 20 minutes. We were on the scene for a little over three hours.”

Fire departments from Auburndale, Arpin, Hewitt, Richfield, Stratford, and Vesper responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.

The Wiskerchen plant has been in operation since 1936.
