12th factory worker tests +ve, 550 to be quarantined | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: Another employee of a tyre manufacturing unit at Kanganwal tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday. Eleven employees of the unit and three of their relatives had already tested positive for coronavirus.
The latest to contract the infection was a 19-year-old worker of the unit, whose testing was done on May 14. More than 20 labourers have been tested out of 550 workers.
Manish Shakti Singh, manager of the tyre unit said, “We had got permission from the administration to open the unit on May 1. More than 300 labourers had been working since then. Though we have more than 550 workers, they had stopped turning up at the factory since Friday. They have been told to stay at home. We have taken all the precautions.”
Sanyam Aggarwal, nodal officer, Covid-19, said, “The owner has himself agreed to close down factory. All employees will be screened and quarantined.”
In another case, 55-year-old worker of a textile unit on Kakowal Road tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday. He had been admitted to Oswal Hospital on May 15.
The total Covid-19 count in the district has gone up to 148.
Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga said, “Out of the samples were sent of Friday, 79 were negative, results of 32 samples are awaited and one case was positive.”
