Worker killed as factory catches fire in Hattar – Newspaper

HARIPUR: A worker was burnt to death and another received injuries when part of a textile industry caught fire in Hattar Industrial Estate, police said here on Saturday.

The fire tenders managed to put out the inferno after an effort of four hours, police and eyewitnesses said, adding the preliminary investigation suggested the fire was caused by electricity short-circuiting.

The Hattar police quoted factory workers as saying the fire broke out in the blow room during the early hours which engulfed the entire unit, injuring two workers busy in the production process.

The injured were removed to the Haripur Trauma Centre, but the doctors there pronounced Gul Shireen as brought dead. Shehzad was referred to the Holy Family Hospital Islamabad with over 40 per cent burns.

The factory administration said the fire had destroyed raw and finished goods, causing a financial loss of Rs4 to Rs5 million.

Labour officer Qasim Tanoli confirmed the incident and added the legal heirs of the deceased worker would get Rs300,000 compensation. He said the injured would also be compensated accordingly.
