Rupert-founded Remgro’s takeover bid for Mediclinic has left many wondering about its game plan.

Analysts say a cash offer from Remgro and the shipping giant MSC to buy out Mediclinic investors was opportunistic – but while the bid was rejected, this may only be the start of a long game.

MSC is the world’s biggest shipping liner, with a total capacity of more than 4.3 million containers across 665 ships. 

It formed a consortium with Remgro, which already owns almost 45% of Mediclinic, to offer a buyout bid to Mediclinic’s board.
