Information from Ward County Emergency Management

The fire index today is HIGH, thus fireworks will be ALLOWED but NOT RECOMMENDED in the county. We give the following tips for individuals choosing to use them today:

• Never allow young children to handle fireworks

• Keep water nearby to extinguish fireworks or in case of fire

• Older children should use them only under close adult supervision

• Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol

• Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eye wear

• Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands

• Never light fireworks indoors

• Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material

• Never point or throw fireworks at another person

• Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting

• Never ignite devices in a container

• Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks

• Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding

• Never use illegal fireworks.

Restrictions by City:

Minot: Fireworks are always banned within city limits.

Burlington: Fireworks are banned within city limits on the 4th of July.

**Surrey: Fireworks are banned within city limits.**

Berthold: Fireworks are allowed within city limits on July 4 from noon to 1 a.m. the following day, and on July 5 from noon to midnight.

Kenmare: Fireworks are allowed within city limits on July 4 only from 10 a.m. to midnight.
