UMaine panel to work on vaccine distribution, requirements

PORTLAND, Maine (WABI) -Maine’s public university system says it plans to use a new task force to assist with distributing the coronavirus vaccine and recommending changes to the system’s immunization requirements.

University system officials say University of Maine System Chancellor Dannel Malloy is charged with appointing the Vaccine Planning and Partnership Task Force.

The system says the task force will also be responsible for “contributing to student and public awareness about the efficacy and safety of FDA-approved vaccines.”

The task force will include University of Maine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy as its chair and it’s scheduled to issue a report on Jan. 25. Maine authorities have reported more than 16,700 cases of the virus since the pandemic began.
