U.S. factory orders rise for fourth straight month in August

Factory orders rose for the fourth straight month in August, the Commerce Department said Friday. Orders for manufactured goods rose 0.7% after a 6.5% gain in the prior month. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch were expecting a 0.9% gain in August. Durable goods orders rose a revised 0.5%, up from last week’s initial reading of a 0.4% increase. Orders for nondurable goods were up 0.8% in the month. Orders for nondefense capital goods, excluding aircraft rose a revised 1.9% in August, up from the prior estimate of a 1.8% rise.
