Gajapati: Three workers of a chowmein plant in the Gajapati district of Odisha died on Wednesday night from asphyxiation after they went to sleep with the chowmein drier machine still running.

Arun Sahu of Berhampur and Mutha and Sunil Dalai of Mohana’s Kampaguda village have been recognized as the deceased, Hindustan Times reported.

According to Gajapati police officers, three workers in the chowmein factory in Narayan Nagar in the Mohana neighbourhood went to sleep after putting the soggy noodles in the dryer for the chowmein.

Sujit Nayak, an inspector of the Mohana police station, said that when the three workers failed to leave the factory in the morning and the local residents called the firefighters.

Inspector Nayak said, “They were unconscious when firefighters came to their rescue. They were rushed to nearby hospitals where the medical staffs pronounced them dead. They may have suffocated because the chow mein drier machine may have sucked the oxygen out of the room. However, post-mortem results would be evident.”
