A huge employer in its heyday, Corah was a booming Leicester business from Victorian times up until the 1990s.
Established by hosiery trader Nathaniel Corah in 1815, the firm expanded eventually occupy a huge site known as St Margaret’s Works on the fringe of the city centre on the banks of the Rover Soar.
At one time it was the largest knitwear producer in Europe.
But despite its scale, and connections with firms like Marks & Spencer, the firm was acquired and split up.
With redevlopment plans submitted for the 7.7-acre site off Vaughan Way earlier this year, we took a trip through the archives to show the firm operating in days gone by.
