The pandemic stress tested Maersk’s new strategy and its customers’ opinions

For Maersk, the coronavirus pandemic turned into an involuntary stress test of the shipping company’s new strategy to expand on land and deliver goods from door-to-door rather than just from port-to-port.

The strategy was launched only a few years back and aims to transform Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping line, into an integrated transport and logistics company, which has, among other things, led to the closure of well-known brands such as Safmarine and Damco, which have now been integrated into what used to be known as Maersk Line.
