Christopher Pugliese of Tompkins Square Bagels in New York City told WABC he’s hoping his supply of cream cheese — with varieties including espresso, jalapeno cheddar and birthday cake — will last him until the next shipment comes in.”So, what I’m being told from my suppliers, there’s a big issue with trucking getting class A truckers and we’re also being told that the shipping containers because we get these big 100-pound, 50-pound blocks. So my guys are telling me those are all like stuck on ships like, you know, in ports,” Pugliese said. One of the top producers of cream cheese, Kraft Heinz Company, is telling bagel lovers not to panic.The company told WABC they’re prepared for the trend to continue as more people make breakfast at home and use cream cheese to make holiday desserts by shipping 35% more product to its food service partners compared to last year. Pugliese said bagel shops have also had to improvise to keep up with demand.”You know, we’re New Yorkers. We’ve been scrambling and hustling for two years now with the pandemic. Like, we’ll find a way,” he said. “There’s always butter. So, it’s not the same! People are going to get upset.”
