Intrapreneurship is an employee(s) initiative for developing new business within established firms, somehow different from the core business.
The value creation is far from an all-or-nothing game; it blossoms in many directions:
- Intrapreneurship sparks new business lines: consider that Gmail, The Facebook like button, or the Sony Playstation were unraveled by intrapreneurs;
- Concurrently, intrapreneurship fosters personal development of employees. As intrapreneur skill set covers innovation project management, team management, networking, and developing a network of allies, intrapreneurship is a school of leadership;
- It’s a global agent of change, as intrapreneurs impact many colleagues in the course of their project: it may be 300 to 500 colleagues contaminated by the startup mindest in a large company;

Do intrapreneurs exist without programs for intrapreneurs? Surely, and they can achieve feats! But we are strong believers they thrive when the corporation makes it a little bit easier, and shapes a supportive framework: this is why we wrote the Intrapreneurs’ Factory book.
