TAP offers new programs including job training and meal distribution for kids

Total Action for Progress

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Total Action for Progress (TAP) says it will offer new summer programs including job training opportunities and a summer meal program for kids.

Summer meal program for kids:

TAP is partnering with Feeding America Southwest Virginia, Williamson Road Church of The Brethren, and Casa Latina – Roanoke Valley to provide free meals to children within the Roanoke community every Thursday from June 16 to August 11 at various locations in the Roanoke Valley.

Due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, meals are available by drive-thru pickup only.

100 meals will be available on a first come, first served basis, on each distribution day. Children 17 and younger are eligible and must be accompanied by a parent.

To see specific locations and dates for meal pickup, view the Kids Summer Food Program Facebook page or contact Stacey Sheppard at [email protected].

Job training opportunities for adults:

TAP will also offer SwiftStart, an adult job training program that was recently extended by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The program offers opportunities for parents seeking careers in healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and information technology. It will also offer tuition and childcare assistance.

SwiftStart was scheduled to end this month after the completion of a four-year grant, but has now been extended to operate until June 2021.

For more information, see the TAP SwiftStart Facebook page or contact David Moore at (540) 553-1454.
