T min says Centre mum on red gram procurement | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy on Monday said the Centre is not responding to state government’s letter for additional procurement of red gram. Telangana has seen a bumper production of red gram. Niranjan said the Centre was ready to purchase red gram at Rs 5,900 per quintal. “If the state procures red gram on its own, it will cost Rs 200 crore and that is why we want the Centre to step in. The issue has been brought to the notice of the central government,” he said.
In the kharif season, red gram was cultivated in five lakh acres. Assuring farmers not to worry, the minister said the government would do everything to support them. TNN
