Supply chain issues limit GF schools’ milk carton availability

A Grand Forks Public Schools official says supply chain issues have limited the district’s supply of milk served in cartons.

In a message to families and school employees today (Fri), Child Nutrition Director Wendy Mankie said local students currently have only white milk as an option at lunch, because there’s a shortage of chocolate milk in cartons.

Mankie said the district’s entire supply of cartoned milk could potentially run out this month or next month, depending on availability from the district’s supplier, Cass Clay.

According to Mankie, the district is setting up an alternate plan to ensure milk remains available for students as scheduled, such as buying milk in bulk, and serving it in cups.

Mankie said the supply of milk is not a concern, but the U-S has only a few carton producers that provide cartoned milk to the nation’s school systems.
