Legacy Foodservice Alliance, of
Richmond, VA, collaborated with Distributor and Supplier
Members to make a contribution to
Philabundance at Legacy’s 10th Anniversary Marketplace in
Philadelphia. The Marketplace is
Legacy’s buying and business conference that takes place in the Spring and Fall
of each year.
Callie Redford, VP Member
Development stated, “Hunger is a nationwide concern, affecting people at every
stage of life. Being in foodservice and going back to our roots in
Philadelphia, it was only logical for us to partner with a great cause that is
doing real work to help the community.”
Legacy’s non-profit entity, Legacy Helping Hands matched all
monetary contributions from individuals and companies. Legacy Supplier Members also donated heaping
pallets of nonperishable product, choosing to make sure those items went to
those in need, and not to the landfill.
“The Members of Legacy Foodservice Alliance were excited to participate
in the good utilization of products.
We’ve done this sporadically before, but plan on making this a staple of
all Legacy Marketplaces going forward,” Redford added.
Philabundance is the Delaware
Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, serving more than 90,000 people
each week in nine counties in PA and Southern NJ. Of those served, 30 percent
are children, 16 percent are seniors, and adults served include college
students, families and the working class. Philabundance rescues, purchases and
accepts donated food, and distributed 26 million pounds in 2018 through its own
programs and a network of 350 partner agencies. A one dollar donation provides two
meals. To make a contribution or learn
