St. John’s Approves $20k in Return of Art Procurement Program

St. John's Approves $20k in Return of Art Procurement Program

St. John’s city council has unanimously approved the purchase of $20,000 worth of artwork to be displayed in city buildings and other spaces.

The purchase is part of the city’s Art Procurement Program and was approved shortly after council passed its 2021 budget on Monday, which included spending cuts and fee increases to address a $12-million deficit.

Twenty works of art made the cut this year out of 217 submissions.

The art-buying program had been shelved for the past four years after council spent some $300,000 on pieces of art to outfit the downtown convention centre.
