South Korean shipyard reeling from strike but offshore projects not affected

The workforce troubles that are affecting South Korean shipyard giant Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) are not having an impact on its offshore and engineering projects, according to a company spokesperson.

A wildcat strike by DSME’s subcontract workers has been ongoing for more than a month, and has developed into a conflict between DSME’s regular unionised full-time workers and the subcontractor workforce, reported the Korea Times.
