Sleepy Eye food distribution Sept. 22 | News, Sports, Jobs

SLEEPY EYE — A free (COVID food assistance program) food distribution will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Sleepy Eye Baseball Park parking lot, 500 7th Ave. S.W.

Fourth in a series of Brown County food distributions sponsored by Second Harvest Heartland, the Sleepy Eye Food Shelf is the local sponsor with cooperation from New Ulm and Springfield food shelves.

Trinity Lutheran Church of Sleepy Eye is local co-sponsor. The Sleepy Eye Future Farmers of America (FFA) will provide volunteer help, along with other community volunteers.

The event is open to all households in need. Anyone is eligible to receive food boxes including those that received them at previous food distributions. In July, more than 500 households each received about 60 pounds of produce, mixed dairy, and frozen pork or chicken.

Food is loaded into vehicles by volunteers. There is limited contact between drivers and volunteers.

Drivers are asked to take State Highway 4 south of U.S. Highway 14 in Sleepy Eye, turn west on Southdate Street S.W. (the street between Chuck Spaeth Ford and BIC APP) to Seventh Ave. S.W. Turn right, and proceed north to the baseball park parking lot.

Volunteers and Sleepy Eye Police will help direct traffic.

Fritz Busch can be emailed at [email protected].
