Shipping Stocks Are Riding a Different Kind of Covid-19 Wave

Shippers have sailed ahead this year even through the rough seas of the Covid-19 pandemic. Strong stimulus driven demand in rich countries, resurgent manufacturing in China and a sleeker industry structure mean that strong performance could continue for a while yet.

Rebounding trade is a big tailwind. Average spot container freight rates from Shanghai to many regions including the U.S., Australia and South America have hit all-time highs in recent weeks, according to Jefferies.
