Saudi Arabia Logistics and Warehousing Market: Ken Resaerch

  • The Saudi Arabian Transport Ministry released its National Industrial Development and Logistics Program in the year 2018 to improve the country’s logistics infrastructure. The plan is intended to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s macroeconomic development plan.
  • Saudi Vision 2030 is aimed at diversifying the oil dependent economy by investing in manufacturing and trading which will positively impact the demand for logistics and warehousing services in the kingdom.
  • Saudi Arabia is seeking to attract about USD 429.0 billion in private sector investment over the next 10 years for infrastructure and industrial program, as per the country’s energy minister.

Growth in E-Commerce Sector: The country recently is witnessing the emergence of new e-commerce companies which is expected to increase the demand of express logistics services in the country. For instance, global e-commerce giants such as Amazon and Alibaba have recently made huge investments in the country thereby contributing in the growth of e-commerce industry. Additionally, Amazon has expanded to the Middle East by acquiring Souq. Thus, such investments in the country are anticipated to boost the freight movement in Saudi Arabia in the near future.

Rise in Government Initiatives: Government initiatives such as Vision 2030 and National Transformation Program 2020 are expected to support economic diversification and growth in the country. Vision 2030 envisages lowering the dependency on oil and developing SMEs, as well as increasing foreign investments in the kingdom.

Setting-up Economic Cities: Development of economic cities such as King Abdullah Economic City and Jazan Economic City to attract foreign investments by providing special incentives is another program by Saudi Arabian government.
