A fire that burned pallets behind a Riverside business and put up smoke that could be seen for miles Saturday, May 16, was put out before flames could do serious damage to nearby buildings.
The fire was reported at 1:08 p.m. at 4111 Flat Rock Drive in the Riverwalk neighborhood of the city. The business there, Farris Enterprises, is an international wholesaler of water purification systems, according to the company website.
Callers to 911 reported hearing explosions and seeing smoke, Riverside Fire Department Capt. Tim Stack said. Damaged compressed air canisters could be seen amid the rubble.
The flames burned pallets and scorched the side of the business. One home suffered a broken window, Stack said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday afternoon. No injuries were reported, Stack said,
