ATHENS – Athens prosecutors filed criminal charges for 30 people involved in another Siemens contract including among them former defense minister Akis Tsochadzopoulos and former head of the German company’s Greek subsidiary Michalis Christoforakos.
The file will be sent to Parliament in the case of the former minister, who faces a new charge of breach of faith while serving in his post. Tsochadzopoulos has already been sentenced for bribery over defense ministry contracts.
The current charge relates to contracts for military phone boards (campaign centers) to be provided through the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (EAV). The five-year concession began in 2001 and was part of the Hermes program assigned to EAV in 1998. Anti-corruption prosecutors said the contract for the campaign centers incurred a loss of 1.5 million euros for the state.
Other people named in the case file include Siemens officials and military officers.
