Procurement announced for final phase of Mežaparks Large Stage reconstruction | Baltic News Network

Construction companies will be able to submit their offers by 29 June.

Gailīte says announcement of a procurement project became possible in this time thanks to efficient and quick work by the municipality’s interim administration in reaching an agreement with the State Treasury on a loan. This way it will be possible to finish planned work sooner than initially planned.

The final phase of reconstruction work will focus on the glass façade of the stage, the membrane dome roof and interior finish. Additionally, the construction project will also focus on reconstruction of a new maintenance yard and reconstruction of a new boiler house, as well as dismantle existing stage maintenance buildings.

In accordance with concluding phase of the reconstruction project, engineering networks and finish landscaping of the stage’s territory. It is also planned to restore the historical pavilion and install an informative path, as well as a separate Song Celebration exposition.

Riga City Council Property Department has developed a schedule for the concluding phase of the reconstruction project, providing for necessary technological breaks to allow for a timely and safe XII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration in July 2021, as well as accommodate the construction project’s implementation by December 2021.

In order to ensure it is possible to finish the project, Riga’s interim administration reached an agreement with Culture Ministry and the government made the decision on 5 May to borrow from the State Treasury EUR 23 million until 2022.

The government’s decision will help finish the large stage’s reconstruction so that it is possible to organize XII School Youth Song and Dance Celebration in 2021 and the XXVII Song and XVII Dance Celebration in 2023.

As previously reported, Riga municipality informed Culture Ministry and National Culture Centre about the EUR 23 million loan necessary to finish Mežaparks Large Stage reconstruction project. The planned schedule for the loan is EUR 8 million in 2020, EUR 14 million in 2021, and EUR 1 million in 2022, so that it is possible to finish the payment of work performed at the end of 2021.

In accordance with available funding and construction requirements that allow using the site at least partially, the reconstruction phase for Mežaparks Large Stage’s B side was divided into two phases so that it is possible to allow the organization of Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration during the first stage of construction work in 2020 and finish the project in 2023 so that it is possible to prepare for XXVII Song and XVII Dance Celebration. However, because of the state of emergency it was decided to postpone both the celebrations and planned construction work terms.
