Portland retailer Cargo was named for its imports. Supply chain woes forced a change.

Cargo, the Portland store known for selling imported goods of all kinds, took its name from the overseas shipments it depended on.

Then the coronavirus pandemic hit, upending the global supply chain. Factories shut down early in the pandemic, then ramped back up to meet surging consumer demand. A backlog of cargo ships overwhelmed U.S. ports, with some waiting weeks last year to unload.
