Plastics manufacturer GreenCore Materials earlier this month announced it would invest $10 million in a new production facility in coastal South Carolina.

The company, which produces composites used to strengthen plastic extruded profiles in construction and transportation applications, selected a site in Georgetown, South Carolina, that reportedly formerly house electronics manufacturer Eagle Electric.

The site, which is expected to begin operations in April, is projected to create 74 new jobs.

Guerry Green, the company’s founder, told the Associated Press that he founded the company six years ago in hopes that stronger plastics could replace metals in commercial development. The company currently holds two U.S. patents with more than 50 additional patents pending worldwide.

“We believe that our new technology will change the plastic extrusion industry, and we are looking forward [to] developing our business where we call home,” Green said in the announcement from the state’s Commerce Department.

The state authorized a $200,000 grant to assist Georgetown County with project-related costs, as well as tax credits for job development.
