— Cars filled the parking lot of the Willmar Civic Center Tuesday afternoon as they patiently waited for bags of fresh produce during a mass produce distribution event put on by the Kandiyohi County Food Shelf.
According to food shelf director Alana Ziehl, the event helps families in a time when food prices in grocery stores continue to rise.
“Produce, as we all know, is really going up in cost,” Ziehl said. “This will hopefully help family budgets stretch further.”
The distribution event features mainly raw produce items that can be used in a variety of ways for families. Items such as cabbage, carrots, potatoes and peppers were given out.
The next distribution will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, beginning at noon at the Willmar Civic Center.
