Paddy procurement in Chhattisgarh begins

The Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday began procuring paddy for the Kharif marketing year 2021-22, with a target of 105 lakh tonnes from 22.66 lakh registered farmers through 2,399 cooperative societies.

The procurement will end on January 31.

Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain himself inspected the arrangements at Jaroda and Bangoli procurement centres in Raipur district, an official communication said.

The Chief Secretary welcomed the farmers at the centres by garlanding them and breaking the ‘shreefal’ to commence the procurement. He also weighed the paddy from a farmer.

Dhamtari district farmer Ramkrishna Mohanty said he is satisfied with the arrangement made by the government. He arrived at the Sambalpur Society procurement centre with 34 quintals of paddy to sell.

Mohanty added that he is deriving the benefit of the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana.

Balod’s Deurtara village farmer Murlidhar Sinha said he sold 48 quintals of paddy. He did not face any problem as the overall management at the centre was good.
