Over 1,000 families receive Thanksgiving meals in Roselawn drive-thru distribution

For over a decade, the Prince Hall Masonic Family has hosted a food giveaway on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Frank Bowen of the Prince Hall Masons says the drive and giveaway exceeded expectations.”This has been a wonderful day,” he said. This year’s giveaway will provide Thanksgiving dinner to over 1,000 families.“To get up to 1,000 in a time of pandemic, especially when we didn’t even think we were going to have the event is a blessing in disguise,” Jason House said as he loaded up turkeys into a waiting car. With practiced precision and coordination, members of the Prince Hall family shared the blessing of Thanksgiving. Families were able to drive through, remaining socially distant, to receive a Thanksgiving meal with all of the sides and trimmings. The need is one which Hamilton County Commissioner-elect recognized as growing across the county and the nation in this era of pandemic.“I’ve been all over the county and the faces are changing of people who have never had to ask for help,” Commissioner-elect Alicia Reece said. Raymond Jeter said he is not surprised.“This is just what we do. We like to give back to the community,” Jeter said.Amidst the busy parking lot and long line of cars, Jeter said his organization has always been a light to those in need of a helping a helping hand. “This is what happens when men and women come together for the good of the community,” Jeter said.
