Orka, a Manchester tech startup that targets hourly paid workers rebrands during COVID-times

With the ongoing pandemic, it is predicted that UK redundancies could top 1 million by the end of 2020 and experts believe flexible working will help get people back into work. Orka Technology Group, which targets hourly paid workers is working hard to meet the targeted demands.

Now the Manchester-based work tech firm has announced that it has rebranded its flagship product, Broadstone, to Orka Work. With this rebrand, Orka now has three products – Orka Pay, Orka Check, and Orka Work. The mission is to make life easier for hourly workers and their employers.

Help people to find temporary employment

The Orka Work (Labour-as-a-Service) platform enables people to find temporary employment in traditional, regulated industries such as security, cleaning, and logistics. Right now, the platform is used by around 50,000 people in the UK and counts G4S and ISS among its growing client base.

150% YoY growth

The company witnessed 150% year-on-year revenue growth in Q3 this year, As a result, Orka is planning to increase its headcount by 100% in the next 12 months, with the company hoping to expand its product portfolio and enter international markets in the months and years to come.

Orka products

Apart from Orka Work, the company’s product consists of:

Orka Pay – It enables workers to withdraw up to 50% of their wages as soon as they’ve finished a shift.

Orka Check – A passport system for shift workers that will eliminate the need for lengthy background checks every time someone does a shift for a different employer through Orka Work.

As per the company, these three products go hand in hand, creating an accessible seamless, integrated experience for shift workers.

Tom Pickersgill, co-founder, and CEO of Orka said: “The launch of Broadstone in 2016 brought a new way of working to the market that championed flexible employment. This rebrand is the natural evolution in the Orka journey and we hope it will help thousands more gain access to our products in the months ahead as businesses look to rebuild their workforce.”

“Our unique approach in the industry is based on simplicity: helping employers fill the roles they need and speeding up the time it takes to get people into work. The pandemic has sharpened our focus and made us more determined than ever to fundamentally redefine the way people find work and get paid.”

Orka Pay, launched in June, allows shift workers to access up to 50% of wages as soon as they have earned them through a shift.
