Ontex boasts 2.8-MW rooftop PV array at factory site in Spain

December 16 (Renewables Now) – Belguim-based personal hygiene company Ontex Group NV (EBR:ONTEX) has inaugurated a 2.8-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) array installed on the rooftop of it factory in Segovia province, Spain.

Consisting of 6,900 solar modules, the PV system can meet more than 20% of power needs of the Segovia facility. Designed, financed and built by Belgian developer Menapy, this array is touted as the largest of its kind in the Spanish region of Castile and Leon region.

According to Ontex, the solar system will produce 3.9 GWh of electricity per year, or about as much as some 1,000 local households would consume in a year.

It will also offset 1,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, the equivalent of 23,000 trees, over a 30-year period, Ontex’s Segovia plant manager Jose Ignacio Luengo said.

The hygiene goods manufacturer has a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, the firm noted.
