O2 Slovakia starts procurement process for 5G equipment supplier

Mobile operator O2 Slovakia announced a tender to choose a supplier of 5G equipment, reports Zive.aktuality.sk. The operator said it’s open to cooperate with all relevant market players. The procurement process is expected to take several months.

O2 uses numerous vendors on its 2G, 3G, 4G and 4.5G networks. The company said that makes it less dependent on a single vendor.

In February, Orange Slovakia announced that it chose Nokia as a partner for the deployment of the 5G network. Slovak Telekom hasn’t chosen its 5G supplier yet.

Mobile operator 4ka has deployed a pilot 5G network in the city of Banska Bystrica on the basis of equipment from ZTE. Nevertheless, the company hasn’t made a final decision on the supplier for its future 5G network. 4ka is in talks on the issue with ZTE, Nokia, Ericsson and Huawei.
