NT Logistics Council convenes on supply chain strength

The NT council is dedicated to securing NT supply chains

The Northern Territory government says the inaugural meeting of the NT Logistics Advisory Council was held last week to discuss supply chain matters.

The NT Logistics Advisory Council was established to provide expert advice to the Territory Government on maximising the effectiveness of the Territory’s supply chains.

The government says effective logistics and supply chains are vital not only to ensuring food and fuel security, but to supporting the Territory’s industry and economic growth, increasing capacity and reducing risk.

The council is made up of Territory industry leaders and co-chaired by the Chief Executive of the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics and the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Logistics Council.

The council comprises:

  • Andrew Kirkman, Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (Co-Chair)
  • Dr Hermione Parsons, Australian Logistics Council (Co-Chair)
  • Peter Dummett, Darwin Port
  • Sam Burke, AustralAsia Railway Corporation
  • Clayton McDonald, Aurizon
  • Tony Edmondstone, Airport Development GroupLouise Bilato, NT Road Transport Association
  • Paul Burke, NT Farmers
  • Will Evans, NT Cattlemen’s Association
  • Katherine Winchester, NT Seafood Council
  • Cathryn Tilmouth, Northern Australia, Minerals Council of Australia
  • Tim Burrow, Extractive Industries Association of NT
  • Greg Ireland, NT Chamber of Commerce.

Initial priority actions for the council will include supply chain mapping and investigation of a potential freight transition scheme.

“Addressing risk and building additional resilience into Territory supply chains is vital to support Territorians and businesses to access what they need, and get products to markets, whether that be in everyday life or in times of crisis,” minister for infrastructure, planning and logistics Eva Lawler says.

“Building a coalition between industry, business and government to collaborate to improve market connections was a recommendation of the Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission to help accelerate the Territory’s growth.”
