NHS supply chain will ban products made in conditions modern slavery | News

NHS hospitals will be banned from using products or services that involve any kind of slave labour.

An amendment to the Health and Care Bill will ensure that health service organisations remove slavery and human trafficking from their supply chains, ministers said.

This will make the NHS responsible for assessing the level of risk associated with individual suppliers and whether they should be blacklisted.

Sajid Javid, the health secretary, said: “I want this to be a turning point in the UK’s mission to eradicate slavery and human trafficking in supply chains around the globe.

“As the biggest public procurer in the country, the NHS is well placed to spearhead this work.”
