Nexans US factory to supply Seagreen export wires – reNews

Nexans’ Charleston factory in the US will make the high voltage offshore export cables for the 1075MW Seagreen offshore wind project, off Scotland.

The Charleston factory will supply the three 65km offshore export cables.

The facility was recently expanded to manufacture HV subsea power cables and is currently the only cable factory with such capability in North America.

The three 20km onshore export cables for the project will be manufactured at Nexans’ factory in Charleroi, Belgium.

SSE Renewables awarded the cables contract to Nexans for the project, which will enter construction next year.

The export cables for the Seagreen offshore wind farm project will be installed by Aurora, Nexans’ new cable laying vessel.

Aurora is currently under construction and will be delivered in the second quarter of 2021.

Seagreen project Director John Hill said: “We are pleased to have Nexans expertise on the Seagreen project as Nexans is a world leader in the supply and installation of subsea power cables.”
