New Bedford Police Seize Fourth Illegally-Possessed Gun This Week

New Bedford Police took a fourth illegally-possessed gun off the streets this week.

On Friday, July 29, detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau executed a search warrant at 66 Hillman Street, Apartment 3E. They said the target of the search was Joseph Clement, 36.

According to police, a search of the residence turned up a loaded .44-caliber handgun and ammunition. The serial number revealed the gun had been stolen out of West Virginia.

Clement has been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, receiving stolen property, and improper storage of a firearm.

Detective Timothy Soares investigated the case.

Clement had three open cases in Fall River District Court at the time of his arrest, police said, for kidnapping, assault and operating a vehicle under the influence of narcotics.

Earlier this week, New Bedford Police seized three illegal guns in two days and five individuals were charged.
