Naval Supply Systems Command has selected officers and industry partners to participate in a joint training program designed to help the U.S. Navy’s logistics personnel apply commercial practices to supply chain transformation efforts.
NAVSUP invited fellows and alumni of its Training with Industry program through a Feb. 12 virtual forum to join the Naval Sustainment System-Supply Vanguard, the military branch said Thursday.
TWI allows officers from the Navy’s Supply Corps to undergo a one-year immersion effort with companies to help the service streamline supply chain and logistics operations.
The selected officers will be deployed to challenging missions under the Supply Corps after the tour.
Rear Adm. Pete Stamatopoulos, commander NAVSUP, said the end-to-end logistics exposure that Supply Corps officers will gain during the program will support decision-making when it comes to organizing, training and equipping Navy forces.
Stamatopoulos added the training and vanguard initiatives serve as key lines of efforts as the branch implements the “Navigation Plan” unveiled by Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Mike Gilday, last month.
The Navy chose Starbucks in Seattle, Home Depot in Atlanta, FedEx in Memphis, Tennessee and ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas, to host the 2021 iteration of TWI.
Incumbent program fellows will have an outbrief session in May.
