Mumbai: An Australian national has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Maharashtra capital Mumbai for allegedly procuring and consuming drugs. The accused, identified as Paul Bartel, works as an architect.

NCB officials, however, did not find drugs in Bartel’s Santacruz flat.

A report in Times of India said NCB claimed to have come across WhatsApp chats talking about contrabands.

“We have found electronic evidence and his links to South African national Agisilaos Demetriades, who was arrested last week,” the report quotes NCB regional director Sameer Wankhede.

The Australian national is the 25th person arrested in a drug probe case in Mumbai. He has been remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

Bartel, who is associated with an international infrastructure firm, is said to be close to Agisilaos Demetriades, whose sister is a partner of Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal.

Arjun Rampal appeared before the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the drug-related case on Friday.  His girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades also appeared before the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for the second time on Thursday as part of its probe into alleged drug use by some people associated with the Hindi film industry.

Earlier, Arjun Rampal’s house was raided by NCB on October 9. Demetriades, a South African model, was questioned by the NCB officials for nearly six hours on November 12.
