Marks & Spencer has hired Paul Babbs to be its new chief supply chain officer as it works to revitalise it clothing arm.

According to a staff memo seen by The Times, Babbs will join M&S’s clothing and home division next spring and will be making the move from Adidas.

He first joined the sportswear giant in 2007 and has been its chief supply chain officer since July 2017.

The news comes after M&S’s former clothing and home supply chain and logistics director Gordon Mowat left after two years in the role.

It is likely Babbs would eventually report to Richard Price, the retailer’s new clothing & home managing director.

Price’s appointment, announced earlier this month, came after former managing director of clothing and home Jill MacDonald exited in July.

Price will join M&S next year and a start date “will be confirmed in due course”.
