Mobile food distribution stops at area communities canceled for Thursday, Jan. 20 – Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS — Great Plains Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry stops planned for Thursday, Jan. 20, in Park River, Larimore, Lakota and Hillsboro, North Dakota, have been canceled due to extreme cold.

No make-up dates have been scheduled, according to Jared Slinde, communications manager for Great Plains Food Bank.

Clients are encouraged to follow the Great Plains Food Bank on Facebook or visit

www.greatplainsfoodbank.org

for announcements on future dates, Slinde said.

The extreme cold affects the logistics of traveling and delivering food items to rural communities. Also, these pantry stops are often set up outdoors in parking lots at churches or football stadiums and very cold temperatures make it difficult for staff and volunteers to carry out distribution, he said.
