A manufacturer of metal building systems plans to establish a new production facility in South Carolina, state and company officials announced.
Chief Buildings said the new site in Lancaster, South Carolina, would expand its footprint in the Southeast and bolster its service to its network of authorized builders. The company, founded more than 50 years ago in Grand Island, Nebraska, specializes in low-rise, non-residential buildings featuring integrated steel walls, framing, and roofing, as well as custom-engineered steel solutions.
The $22.1 million project is expected to create 102 jobs over the next five years. Chief officials hope to begin operations in Lancaster by October.
“Lancaster was the ideal location to expand our operations,” Chief Industries Chairman, President, and CEO DJ Eihusen said in a statement. “The expansion is a logical step in our business growth strategy and helps to ensure we meet the needs of our stakeholders.”
State economic development officials approved an undisclosed amount of tax credits to support the project, along with a $200,000 grant to assist Lancaster County with building improvement costs.
“This third-generation, family-owned business is not only a leader in their industry, but in the communities in which they operate,” added James Gilbert, executive director of the Lancaster County Department of Economic Development. “Lancaster County couldn’t be more appreciative of their decision to bring these outstanding manufacturing jobs here.”
